Low Indigo's eight release comes from Jolin Ras, a Vancouver DJ/producer and multi-instrumentalist rep'ing Outerbound / Transmolecular and Ulterior Motif. His influences of Jazz, Hip Hop, Soul, Funk, R&B and electronic beats all come together to form the most colourful release for Low Indigo yet. The mood is spacey and heady, with an almost tangible spiritual clarity and alertness. Perfectly off-kilter beats with dubbed-out soundscapes bubbling in the background and analog synth melodies upfront, all delivered in a way that feels very natural and at ease.

"The title of this EP stems from the time periods when creating these tracks (2011-2012). I was undergoing an awakening amongst myself, through the sense of being one with the universe. It was more of a transformation with my spiritual self and being in tune with the creator and the vibrations of my surroundings. We are all living in a cycle, we are here to find our true selves, cultivate our beings, and prepare our self for the next wave/journey to be rediscovered. Rebirth Cycle is my sound story being re born within the cosmos."

Rebirth Cycle is out Dec 5, with Jolin headlining a Cats Only Club event at the Rattle (semi-regular vancouver underground event) to celebrate. This will also see the release of a music video for Rebirth Cycle from the very talented Darcy Turenne.

crimson - timelight

out now...
crimson - timelight EP (low indigo 007)

1 - timelight
2 - don't know
3 - aaliah 2012
4 - faith 99

total playing time:
release date: july 17 2015
mastered by beau thomas
artwork by crimson

available exclusively thru the low indigo bandcamp
and at all other digital retailers following.

crimson's 'timelight' EP is the result of combing through a back catalogue dating back to 2012, and selecting a cohesive stand-out collection of emotionally-driven downtempo tracks. while the work is understated and possibly appearing simple at first, strong emotional undercurrents and subtle craft reveal complexities that stand the test of time. these tracks could easily function in the foreground on a chilled out dancefloor or play a more obvious background or life soundtrack scenario as well.

all tracks all were created in the late night hours past 3am "when most people are sleeping and you can journey a little deeper" quotes crimson. 'aaliyah 2012' and 'don’t know' are earlier works from 2012, while 'timelight' and 'faith 99' come from the later months of 2014. soft ethereal pads compliment darker off-axis vocal work over the shuffly halftime beats of 'don't know'. the heart-felt 'aaliyah 2012' is a tribute of sorts, made on the anniversary of her passing, though interestingly not sampling from her voice. crimson enjoys noting that the bulk of the track came out of a one night session he snuck in at the studio of sergio levels, fellow modern math and rinseout co-hort, while sergio was off on a cruise somewhere. 'timelight' and 'faith 99' were made in a tiny high-story studio apartment during a cold 2 weeks of icey calgary winter. "..i remember the windows being frozen shut. ..creating some warmth in the winter months is key, and i feel these tracks reflect the battle we face with the cold / dark forces."

crimson is based in calgary, a member of 'modern math' and 'the rinse out' family, and a frequent dj at the beloved 'hifi' club amongst other hot spots and festivals.

xlr8r gives away kline's 'don't tell me'

thanks XLR8R!

rich nines

excuses aside, it's many months over due to post a very large and hearty THANK YOU to the amazing human being that is Eric Shinn, aka RICH NINES.

for the average public looking at actual content and product, it might be hard to understand just how much work is needed to keep something like LOW INDIGO moving forward. countless hours have been put in and countless hours will be put in into the future. Eric climbed into the main cabin of the low indigo ship, hung out for a good chunk of spring and summer 2014, and helped refine a lot ideas and provided invaluable insight from a good handful of angles. possibly the largest contribution was injecting such healthy amounts of good vibes and positive energy at every step of the way, coupled with an enthusiasm and fearlessness to deal with experimenting with notions of transparency, intuition, and idealisms.

THANK YOU ERIC! big up an original junglist abstract composer dj dancer dreamer doer thinker such as yourself. onwards and upwards.

first words on kline's ghost..

'ghost' is kline's second release for low indigo. it is a reflection on a paranormal encounter kline had, which he then translated into songs, as part of a way to process his new perception of reality. the EP also features an appearance from francesca belcourt and full video from endtask.

'love light', originally named 'man in the doorway', begins and ends with the sound of a door opening and closing on it's own. sonic elements of alarm mimic panic felt in certain moments, and the extreme panning of the final notes reflect a sense of isolation (just one person and one semi-transparent figure, and nothing else existing inside that moment).

'looking over my shoulder' deals with the initial paranoia following the encounter, but also about the eventual acceptance that there might always be something "there" (whether we see it or not).

the intro track was written with notions of ghostly frequencies, floating swirling static, and explores the fluidity that might come from being not of this realm.

endtask provides the video for the EP; as a meditation on viewing beyond the veil and as a platform for detecting the traces of a presence just beyond the limits of perception. this imagines a ghost as a extra-dimensional entity, appearing in slices when passing through a three dimensional world, like a sphere passing through the two dimensional world of the edwin abbott's 'flatland'. the evolving imagery carves four dimensional shapes from colliding systems, showing the shadow of another realm like a seashell makes physical the shadow of a process.

endtask's video was created from performances, mixed live, to kline's songs. It is intended to create a contemplative environment and induce a hypnotic state. stylistically, endtask imagines alien intelligent systems and rendering technology, visualizing beyond our current computational limits.

kline is temporarily based in calgary and remains one of the better known members of chapel sound. he views himself as a painter ahead of being an audio artist. francesca belcourt, also a member of chapel sound, resides in vancouver as a singer/songwriter and recording artist. endtask is the alias of a known vancouver visual artist and animator, focused on experimentation and discovery.

low indigo continues to host select events in vancouver and provides an online community that shares left-of-center electronic-based music. low indigo releases music and other media content "only when it feels right".

kline's ghost drops feb 18 2015 exclusively on bandcamp,
and in other stores following.
the video from endtask comes out the same day on youtube
